PivotX 2.2 beta 1 released..

We've just released the first beta of PivotX 2.2. More information (with screenshots) of what's new can be found in this posting.

Please note that this is the first public release of PivotX 2.2, and that we would advise against using this version on public websites, unless you're comfortable running beta software.
If you're not comfortable running beta software, the final (and thus stable) release of PivotX 2.2 is planned for the end of november. In the meantime: Please post any bugs and feedback you might find in this forum thread.

We initially planned this first release for last week, but we took some extra time to fix some more issues. The updated release schedule is:

  • 2.2 beta 1 released on october 19
  • november 2: 2.2 beta 2
  • november 16: 2.2 RC
  • november 23: 2.2 final

The beta release can be downloaded from this location: pivotx.net/files/pivotx_22b1.zip (or pivotx.net/files/pivotx_22b1.tgz, if you prefer .tgz files). For setup instructions, we point you to our documentation: Getting the files & installing. If you're having trouble downloading the files, you can also download them from our sourceforge mirror.

A small preview of PivotX 2.2.

We're currently working on PivotX 2.2, and we'd like to show you a few of the things you can expect to see in the next version. The upcoming release will contain a couple of nice new features, which are detailed below. We have a firm outline of what will be done for this upcoming version, so it won't take nearly as long as the time between PivotX 2.0 and 2.1. In fact, it should be released sometime in november.

PivotX 2.1.2 released.

We've released PivotX 2.1.2 as a maintenance release for all users of PivotX. This release contains no major new functionality, but it does fix a number of smaller bugs and quirks. See the list below for details:

  • Bugfix: Internet explorer 7 could 'hang' when writing a new entry or page, because of an issue with URI generation.
  • We've made several fixes to prevent XSS exploits
  • We've added support for filtering the sitemap based on disallow entries in robots.txt and added support for additional URIs in the sitemap.
  • We're now escaping HTML for other types of textprocessing too, not just for WYSIWYG.
  • Some fixes and changes were made to the built-in Slideshow and Fancybox extensions.
  • We updated TinyMCE (the WYSIWYG editor) to version 3.3.9.1
  • Fixed Magpie's parsing of dates: Some feeds (like Twitter searches) would give wrong dates, breaking the Lifestream extension
  • Bug fix: Adding a new entry could cause all words used in old entries to be removed from the search index because of flawed logic in removeFromSearchIndex and addToSearchIndex. (Flatfile DB only)
  • Fixed bug in searchEntries (Flatfile DB only)
  • Fixed an issue with unparsed Markdown text in search results.

This stable maintenance release can be downloaded from this location: pivotx.net/files/pivotx_212.zip (or pivotx.net/files/pivotx_212.tgz, if you prefer .tgz files). For setup instructions, we point you to our documentation: Getting the files & installing. If you're having trouble downloading the files, you can also download them from our sourceforge mirror.

PivotX 2.1.1 released.

We've released a maintenance update for PivotX 2.1. This 2.1.1 release fixes a few minor nuisances and quirks, as follows:

  • There was an issue where the 'Upload an Image' button would get stuck on top of modal windows. This is now fixed.
  • The WYSIWYG editor now supports Vimeo's new HTML 5 embed code, as well as Youtube's (beta) iframe embed code.
  • In the 'Skinny' template, the links to "previous page" and "next page" work correctly.
  • If you're upgrading from Pivot 1.x, the old passwords are properly imported now.
  • Minor updates to the externallinks, gallery, slideshow and fancybox extensions.

This stable maintenance release can be downloaded from this location: pivotx.net/files/pivotx_211.zip (orpivotx.net/files/pivotx_211.tgz, if you prefer .tgz files). For setup instructions, I point you to our documentation: Getting the files & installing. If you're having trouble downloading the files, you can also download them from our sourceforge mirror.

PivotX 2.1 released!

After a long period of alpha's and beta's, PivotX 2.1 is finally released as a stable version. We recommend this version as an upgrade for everybody who's running either 2.0, 2.0.2 or an older beta version of 2.1.0.

Compared to 2.0, the most important changes are:

  • A new Administration interface for mobile devices (iPhone, Android)
  • A new Bookmarklet
  • Comes with built-in theme and extension for mobile devices
  • Search has weighed results, greatly improving the relevancy of the results.
  • Multi-site support (docs
  • Per directory weblog support (docs)
  • There are a bunch of new extensions available on extensions.pivotx.net
  • Setting and changing the 404-page has been improved
  • A ton of tiny improvements and changes, to make the platform more stable and consistent
  • All internally used libraries were updated to the latest versions (jQuery, TinyMCE, etc.)
  • Bugs! Lots of bugs were fixed!

The stable release can be downloaded from this location: pivotx.net/files/pivotx_210.zip (or pivotx.net/files/pivotx_210.tgz, if you prefer .tgz files). For setup instructions, I point you to our documentation: Getting the files & installing. If you're having trouble downloading the files, you can also download them from our sourceforge mirror

This is the last release to officially support PHP 4.x. The next release will be PHP 5.x only.

The next stable release will not take nearly as long as this one, though. We're working on a roadmap for new features and improvements, so that we'll be able to release stable versions more often. We'll post about the details on that soon, in a new blog posting.

Download PivotX 2.1.0 RC

Within two weeks from now PivotX 2.1.0 will see the light. Expect lots of new and improved features! You can give it a try by downloading the release candidate (2.1.0 RC) as a ZIP file or a TGZ file.
After updating you should take a look at the PivotX extensions website. There are some nice extensions available for PivotX 2.1.0.

What's next?
After releasing PivotX 2.1.0 the PivotX team will get together to talk about future plans: - Where do we think PivotX should be going? - What functionality should be added to the core and what functionality should be an extension? - Who are we anyway?

We will keep you posted of course about this existentialistic questions :)

Last but not least: As you can see, the looks of this blog have slightly changed, and the contents will too. We really would like to write more about PivotX. There are very interesting PivotX related projects going on that you should know about and we should write about. We will do our best to keep you informed. The new address of this blog is http://blog.pivotx.net

PivotX 2.1.0 beta 7.

Beta 7 of PivotX 2.1.0 has been released. A few annoying bugs in beta 6 have been resolved, and we've made a few minor but nice improvements. For instance, now there are 'Delete Entry' and 'Delete Page' buttons when you're editing the Entry or Page, and there's an option to get a 'compact view' of the Extensions listing to improve legibility.

The beta version can be downloaded from this location: pivotx.net/files/pivotx_210beta7.zip (or this one, if you prefer .tgz files). For setup instructions, I point you to our documentation: Getting the files & installing.

PivotX 2.1.0 beta 6.

We've just released beta 6 of PivotX 2.1.0. If you've been following the forum or if you've been using the 'unofficial' releases, you might've already seen some of the new features and updates in this release. Between this and the previous beta that was posted here, there have been a lot of updates behind the screens. Besides the usual bugfixes and smaller improvements, there are four points, I'd like to highlight:

  • The mobile interface for the PivotX backend for iPhone and Android is working pretty well already. See this previous post, to see details and screenshots. Just go to the usual address on your phone, to use the new interface.
  • We've revamped the default Theme for mobile devices. It has some built-in features to take advantage of the possibilities of modern phones. For instance, it reformats the entries, so that all embedded images are transformed into clickable thumnbails, optimized for mobile screens.
  • There's a new-ish bookmarklet. It makes it really easy to make quick posts to your website, without ever leaving the page you're currently on. Just click the bookmarklet link in your browser's favorite bar, and it'll open a small window, allowing you to make a post which links back to the current page. If you've selected text on the page, this will be included in the post as well. This functionality works really well in combination with the oEmbed extension: If you click the bookmarklet on a site that supports oEmbed, it will automagically insert the embedded content from that page in your new Entry.
  • Now that extensions.pivotx.net is up and running, we're reducing the amount of bundled extensions in the base PivotX download. The 'Extensions' screen in the PivotX interface will now notify you if there are updates available for your installed extensions.

The beta version can be downloaded from this location: pivotx.net/files/pivotx_210beta6.zip (or pivotx.net/files/pivotx_210beta6.tgz, if you prefer .tgz files). For setup instructions, I point you to our documentation: Getting the files & installing.

Update: There was an annoying bug in this beta, regarding the editing of templates. This has been fixed, and the downloads have been updated. Please update to this version, if you edit templates in the PivotX backend. The version number in the bottom of the screen should read '2.1.0 beta 6b', after you've applied the update.

After updating, please check your settings and especially if all previously enabled extensions are still enabled.
