PivotX 2.2 RC released

Just in time for the holidays, here's the Release Candidate for PivotX 2.2. This means that this version is considered to be stable enough to use on live websites, but we're doing one more small round of testing before labeling it "2.2.0 final". Please try this version, and let us know how it goes in this forum thread.

This release contains two new features, when compared to the previous beta release:

  • There's a new [[searchresults]] tag, which allows you to format and style the search results page to your liking. Documentation can be found here.
  • PivotX now has an Offline modus, allowing you to show an static page with a message to the visitors of the website, while you can still use the backend to do upgrades or work on the website. The switch to turn the site off, can be found under Administration » Configuration. Please note that you will still be able to see your site, because your IP-address will be whitelisted after flipping the switch. Only people from other IP-addresses will see the offline page.

Apart from that, this release contains mostly fixes and enhancements for the new features in 2.2, like the Debug Bar, the new Entries Overview screen, and the new uploader and the new handler for the way PivotX inserts code to certain parts of a rendered page.

The release candidate can be downloaded from this location: pivotx.net/files/pivotx_22rc.zip  (or pivotx.net/files/pivotx_22rc.tgz, if you prefer .tgz files). For setup instructions, we point you to our documentation: Getting the files & installing. If you're having trouble downloading the files, you can also download them from our sourceforge mirror.

Thanks! I use Firefox 3.6.13 and just installed the release candidate. Experimented with it and almost every time I save an entry, the browser freezes. After a while I get an error:

And what exactly does the offline modus do? I enabled it, but the website is still accessible just like before. How can I activate/edit the static message?

Never heard of that issue with FF before. I couldn’t reproduce it in FF 3.6.13 anyways. Have you tried emptying pivotx’s cache, logging out, clearing cookies and cache in FF, and then log in again?

About the offline feature: You still see the site, because of your IP adress.. This way you can do maintenance on your site, and break nearly everything, whilst other people see the offline screen. ;-)

Offline modus! Yay!

I tried it on an other computer and it works. Wasn’t clear to me. Is there some setting to edit the message? Maybe with a special template so I can create a bit more fancy offline message (add some more info about why the website is offline and maybe a logo or so). If not, I think this is a good suggestion for the final release or the next version…

In the templates/ folder is a file default_offline.html. You can edit this.

Note that it does NOT allow for smarty tags, and the message is currently not editable through PivotX. It will be later, if people want to use this feature.
